The main restaurant of Kyoto Minokichi has been reborn as “Kyo-Kaiseki Minokichi Main Restaurant: Takeshigero,”consisting of a sukiya-zukuri main hall and a gassho-zukuri annex, both designed by Takashi Imazato (Sugiyama), one of the leading figures in Japanese architecture.In connection with the name “Takeshigero, which means ”bamboo thicket hall,” bamboos have been planted to reflects the hope that this traditional restaurant,which was inherited from Ichiroku Iwaya and has been continued since the Kyoho period (1716-36) by the Satake family will forever prosper.A brook flows through the moss covered bamboo forest and there is a small waterfall and spring that give the feeling of a quiet mountain village.The view of each of the four seasons from the tatami sitting room is a serenity inspiring landscape.In the cultural climate of Kyoto, Takeshigero holistically creates and offers Japanese culture based upon Kyoto cuisine.

Minokichi has made and served freshwater fish cuisine for generations, and has made freshwater fish cuisine a characteristic of the cuisine of Kyoto,which lies far from the sea, but is nearby Lake Biwa and the Kamo River.
Therefore, at Takeshigero, we make sure to include freshwater fish dishes, which are our specialty, in all of our Kaiseki cuisine courses, each of which are made up of different individual Kyoto cuisine dishes.

  • Monthly Menu
The Atmosphere of Takeshigero. Takeshigero is comprised of a sukiya-zukuri main hall and a gassho-zukuri hall, and in connection with its name,bamboo is used to express the image of Kyoto in the garden and elsewhere.
Creating formality, semi-formality and informality. The beams of the hall are spaced widely apart so that the garden is fully visible, and shoji partition screens are used liberally to create a soft and Japanese feeling of light.
Gassho-zukuri Hall. The gassho-zukuri hall built at the back of the premises has been transferred from the Gokayama region in Toyama and reconstructed from a renovated traditional-style restaurant to become a resurrected gassho-zukuri hall.
